Why Install A Garage Floor?
Improving the overall look of the garage, as well as just upgrading the concrete garage floor are both compelling reasons to install garage floor tiles. If you work in your garage, then you understand that the floor is not just something you park a car on. It’s the first thing you clean when you’re done working, and the first thing to look dirty when it’s not maintained. Well, I suppose the car itself might be the exception, but you get the point. If the garage floor is clean, the whole garage looks spiffy. If the garage floor is dirty, cracked, and stained, then the entire garage looks old and worn out. I always hate to finish a big job in the garage only to turn around and realize that now I have to spend an hour cleaning the floor, or leave it dirty.
What To Consider When Choosing Garage Flooring
There’s lots of tile types, styles, and manufacturers out there, so there is some decision making to do. Will you put down a myriad of colors, or just one solid? Do you want some standard tiles, or something not so square? Does it matter if the garage flooring channel debris and water out of the garage, and does it need to provide traction for walking, or does it just need to look pretty?
Consider Sticky Garage Floor Tiles
It makes sense to consider sticky-backed garage floor tiles as one of the better types of garage floor coverings that can be easily installed by the home owner when you consider just how effective they are. As opposed to epoxy garage floor paint, you can pretty much start and finish the job whenever you like, depending on how life goes. There’s no penalty for taking breaks between sessions and, as long as you keep at it, you will eventually finish. No matter how many breaks you take, the number of man hours spent laying the garage floor tile will be about the same. There’s no worry about drying times or phases like with epoxy. Just lay some tiles down after work every day, and eventually your entire garage flooring will be in place.
How To Prepare The Cement Garage Floor
Tiles do require a cleaner surface than almost any other garage floor coating. As they have sticky backs, they’ll stick to whatever they first contact; even if that first thing is dust, gravel, dirt, or oil. Therefore, it’s very important to be sure that the garage floor is very, very clean and that any holes or cracks are filled in and sanded down to provide as even a surface as possible
Hire A Garage Floor Installer?
For this type of garage floor covering, it’s probably not necessary, nor cost efficient. The total number of man hours really wouldn’t be any different than epoxy, which is a lot tougher and will last longer. The beauty of garage floor tiles lies in the ease of install. All you need is a straight edge, a utility knife, and some time.
